8 yo: Mom, what’s this paper? 

Me: Well, it says you have a test coming up on fractions?

8 yo: *starts crying* But I hardly know anything about fractions! I don’t understand them! *Cries harder*

10 yo: Oh! I can help! I know all about fractions!

8 yo: *wailing* I can’t do fractions! This is horrible!

Me: (to 10 yo) Wait. Maybe this note’s for you.

10 yo: What note? Oh yeah! That’s mine.

Me: (to 8 yo) Oops. Sorry kid. My bad.

8 yo: *shuddering sob, then slowly stops crying* I still hate fractions!
